Asia’s top CSR event aims to incorporate innovation around sustainability and risk management to ensure competitive and long-term advantage for businesses

Bangkok, 26 September 2017 – CSR Asia Summit 2017, the annual leading conference on corporate social responsibility, takes place in Bangkok today and tomorrow for its second time in Thailand, at The Amari Watergate Hotel.  The event has attracted 500 thought leaders and business executives, all committed to tackling pressing challenges, discussing emerging trends, exploring opportunities, and identifying sustainable solutions for Thailand and Asia.

CSR Asia Summit 2017 brings together representative from over 30 countries representing a diverse range of sectors, including international organizations like Huawei, adidas, Microsoft, Unilever, IKEA, and Visa; local organizations such as Thai Union, and SCG; members of civil society including the United Nations, the Global Child Forum, UNICEF; academic organizations including Korea’s Chung-Ang University and Kyorin University and think tanks.

The conference focuses on future proofing sustainable business, with the aim to drive honest conversation and generate dialogue around critical issues. “We are exploring how companies are recognizing that there are measureable benefits associated with having a sound sustainability strategy. To leverage this strategy companies need to move from being reactive to proactive”, said Dr. Richard Welford, Chairman and founder of CSR Asia.  “Although the future is uncertain, businesses today realize that they will need to contribute to the challenges associated with sustainable development. To do so means engaging with global challenges and making a contribution to development in line with core business activities”, concluded Dr. Welford.

More than 80 speakers contribute to the 2 day conference and include some of the most influential people driving sustainability in Thailand and the region.  David Galipeau, Chief, United Nations Social Impact Fund, will share insights into how businesses must evolve to remain competitive and keep shareholders happy, while highlighting the partnership architecture that is most effective in driving sustainability.  Dr. Richard Welford, Chairman and founder of CSR Asia, will highlight the sustainability trends over the next 10 years and how to truly future proof sustainable business in today’s complex climate.

To start off the exciting two-day summit, a pre-summit half-day training led by specialized external trainers and CSR Asia in-house experts was opened  to interested guests to discover and discuss important CSR issues, with all organizations involved able to engage and gain highly valuable insights. There were also workshop opportunities involving topics on building and implementing a sustainability strategy, community investment impact measurement, creating shared value, and sustainability reporting – how to do it right, and aligning business strategies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
